Dara Totterdell B. Physio (NUI) MISCP MCPWHC
Dara is a chartered physiotherapist specialising in Women’s Health, Continence and Sports and Exercise Medicine. She has over 20 years experience working with a wide range of conditions from sports injuries and muscoskeletal problems to neurological conditions such as spinal injuries, CVA’s and multiple Sclerosis and their associated problems including difficulties with continence.
Dara has spent 15 years giving ante-natal and post-natal classes as well as promoting continence and well-being in the area of women’s health. As a mother of four and having worked in The Rotunda Maternity Hospital as well as alongside other maternity hospitals, Dara brings a wealth of experience in supporting women’s needs both during child-bearing and into later years.
Qualifications
- 1988 Bachelor of Physiotherapy UCD
- 1995 Membership of Chartered Physiotherapists in Women’s Health and Continence. Two year course based at Coombe Hospital, Dublin.
Experience
- 1988-1993 St James Hospital Dublin & Blackrock Clinic dealing with all areas of physiotherapy including manual therapy, respiratory, sports therapy and neurology. Studied Maitlands, Cyriax and McKenzie forms of manual therapy as well as Bobath methods of neuro management.
- 1993-1999 Rotunda Hospital Dublin, in the specialised area of Women’s Health. This included ante-natal education, post-natal care of mothers as well as promotion of continence.
- 1999-2001 National Rehabilitation Hospital
- 2001 – Current – Dalkey Clinic all areas of physiotherapy but with a special interest in Women’s Health and continence.
- 2009 – Enniskerry Physiotherapy Clinic – specialist physiotherapist in area of women’s health and promotion of continence.
Personal Sporting Profile
- Captain of UCD Swimming & Waterpolo Club 1987-1988
- Captain Sandycove Ladies Waterpolo team 1988-1990
- Member of National Yacht Club – regular sailor flying fifteen class as well as Sigma 33 class.
- Wakeboarding, skiing, mountain-biking and anything to entertain her teenage boys!
